Gardening CareTips for the Backyard Gardener
I have a raised garden bed question!!!?

Ok…..so i have a raised garden bed with soil i got from home depot and also some dirt that was just there and now im getting ready to plant this year but i noticed that the soil i have in the bed is like clay and mud is there anything i can buy to fix this like compost or anything thanks for your help!! Have a great day!

You have a number of options for amending your soil. You do not have to get rid of what you have. One options is after this growing season mix some chopped leaves into the clay like soil. This is the slowest process to amend the soil, but over the next three years it should solve the issue very nicely. Another option is to mix an equal amount of peat moss (or the more eco friendly version COCONUT FIBER) and course vermiculite into the bed. This will give you immediate results, but I would still add the leaves every year also. Good luck and happy growing!

Definitely add compost. You may want to add a little sand too to help with the drainage.

    Good luck!

HD sells stuff that can’t even be called soil. As much as I hate Walmart, at least they have decent topsoil–for the moment anyway.
Your only option now is to mix compost in and double dig your bed. Hard work, I know. You can remove all the HD stuff you bought and use it for a berm or something and buy new. That might be easier.
