Gardening CareTips for the Backyard Gardener
George’s rasied vegetable garden bed June 9 2009

My 5 x 12 raised garden bed is getting smaller every day! Wish I had more room. The zucchini plant is growing too big and shading my pepper, tomato and cantaloupe plants so time to do a little pruning? All suggestions welcome…this is my rookie year at growing vegetables! Thanks! -George Rye, NY

    You can prune …
You can prune zucchini easily and not worry about diease and pests unless it’s already diseased or covered in pests. I’ve always pruned mine and never had a single problem aside from it growing even faster. lol

Very nice garden so far! :)

Thanks Jason! I actually went and pruned my zucchini plant back yesterday after the video. I wanted to make room for my tomato, pepper and cantaloupe plants and now there is much more room for them. I’m gonna hit it tonight with some compost tea I’m currently brewing and will keep you posted how it does. Thanks! -George

    Holy junk! My …
Holy junk! My zucchini is just about that big and I have 2 next to each other along with 2 squash. I was actually reading about pruning zucchini/squash and from what I’ve read most things say to not cut anything back as it can lead to disease or pests. Now I have zero experience as this is my first year growing so just going by what I’ve read literally today. I’ll be posting a new vid tomorrow and talking about the same problem and looking for help.
